I work as a pilot of an Boeing 737. I collect interesting situations and meet interesting people in my travels around the world. I have the opportunity to explore different cultures and compare them with each other. I like fishing, so I have the opportunity to gather a lot of knowledge from that area. About all I would like to share with you in these short reportage
It is quite cold January early morning day at New Delhi as I meet part my crew at hotel reception. Here in north India the air temperature is around 10°C during night, but i will be much more higher where we are heading today: Madurai
After getting into car driver take direction to New Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport. It is quite unsual for Europien people to see how is traffic passing behind the car windows. The red lights on the traffic lights are not accepted very often and we appear sometime in very tough situation face to window oposit direction driving cars. But who cares, here in India seems to work only one rule, and not even only on the streets - Who is the first to survive :-) (or get more money)
Finally we got to the briefing room, we meet the rest of our crew and we can start our preparation. Before each flight all crew members shoul pass alkohol test.
The company´s dispatcher have already prepared an extensive pack of documents and we have to walk thrgough more then 50 pages, taking care to ensure we do not miss any vital information. The waether forecat in these time is very friendly, despite closing monsun season, and predicts very good and pleasant flying condition. On the first leg from DEL-DXB we can expect some cold front speading from southwest UAE to NortEast. Even approach to Dubai may become a little tricky, landing condition looks quite friedly.
We have to check NOTAMs, whitch alert pilots of potential hazards along the planned route taht could affect the safety of the flight. This includes datail of temporary construction work at airports, full or partial runway closures, system downgrades ar any other abnormality that is not otherwise detailed in our regular documets and charts.
Some pages of cryptic data later, we move on to the en route charts. There is jet stream over Iran and Pakistan, typical for this annual period and it gives us average 80 kts head wind component on the way to Dubai.
We have to also consider loading of aircraft and its weight limites. This line is almost full of pasangers and cargo as well.
Finnaly proceding to our cabin crew to provide briefing about expecting contition for out today´s flight.
Like anyone going airside at the airportwe have to pass a immigration and customs procedures and checks. This everyday routine is the most annoying thing in all the flying crews lifes. But I must say fortunatelly for all of us, this can provide quite high level of safety for all aircraft occupants. By the way we have at least priority to get time prepare our aircraft for the way in time.
The way through all terminal area to our gate is quite long. It takes almost 1,5 km and 40 minutes from briefing room to reach our parked craft at gate by walk.
Different kind of relaxation
We are expected "May we start boarding ? "
All On Board
Our passangers, cargo and fuel are loaded and I done walk around check procedures. Proceding with cocpit and cabin preparation we can begin our journey towards Madurai.
I am suppervised sometime during walk around as well
All ground checks done, so let´s fly

... we could see this
... and late closer to Dubai we could see this !!!
This is a tipycal sign of icing conditons. In this event it was quite strong coused by cold front condition which i mantioned during preflight briefing.

Finnaly he we are. Most danger part of our duties still to come ....
.. this is it. The way from the airport to hotel by local transport. Sometime it looks like
Despite of poor visibility we made video record of approach to Varanasi at India. There is only a few days with such "good" visibility like this day 1.11.2015.

Waiting for the airplane in the terminal
We take the aircraft from the previous flight . Several dozens of minutes we spend waiting in the lobby with passengers
The aircraft arrived a litlle bid late for a few minutes . It will need to move fast and make the necessary check-in procedures as soon as possible
To check some important parts of airplane
.. sometimes I can enjoy the view of around passing a little machines
.. meanwhile, my colleague prepares the cockpit
After the first hour of flight are emerging Greek Islands like this one named
Ikaria
Icaria, also spelled Ikaria is a Greek island in the Aegean Sea, 10 nautical miles southwest of Samos. It derived its name from Icarus, the son of Daedalus in Greek mythology, who fell into the sea nearby. Administratively the island forms a separate municipality within the Ikaria regional unit, which is part of the North Aegean region. The principal town of the island and seat of the municipality is Agios Kirykos. The historic capitals of the island include Oenoe and Evdilos.
or this one named
Athos
Mount Athos is a mountain and peninsula in Northern Greece. A World Heritage Site and autonomous polity within the Hellenic Republic under the official name Autonomous Monastic State of the Holy Mountain, Mount Athos is home to 20 stauropegial Eastern Orthodox monasteries under the direct jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople.....
We have approached our home base after crossing the Balkan. The Czech Republic flying through over South Moravia towards Plzen .
-- add pics with small South Bohemia Lakes --
There is cold front coming from the southwest of Europe appear above the horizon known to us and announced before departure from Ben Gurion Airport.
A few minutes later we got information about the status of Amsterdam Shipol Airport about strong thunderstorm with torrential rain over the airport
To avoid possible waiting I decided to reduce the speed even at flight level and avoid any possible waiting for weather improvement near the airpor
The scenery of preceding storms opened in front us after several feet lower during descent
It seems the deceleration to be useful. However, our way during the landing weak rain shower will hit us anyway During the docking the gate bridge, we notice how ground staff frantically pulled out their mobile phones from their pockets and like verve trying to take a photo of our plane ... that we have suffered a lightning strike ? Leaving airplane worriedly pointing my view from the nose of airplane like they do..... and :-)
